Birthdays and More

Really?? Is it already the end of April? I am so far behind it's embarrassing, but despite that I'm posting things from March anyway!!

Kierst turned 10 on March 26th, I still can't believe my little 5 pounder is a decade old! Her personality has blossomed over the past year and she's turning into a responsible, helpful child who's just on the verge of becoming a teenager. We're not ready!! She also has developed some of Chris' sarcastic wit:)
Tradition in our house is that on your birthday you get your favorite breakfast, lunch (if it's not a school day), and dinner. After breakfast you can open all your birthday gifts.

Growing up we always had birthday parties, every year, no matter what. My mom was the queen of imaginative and innovative parties, I wish I were as good as she was! I have to admit that I do love putting together parties, but with going to Europe this year right in the middle of our birthday month it was tough, we kept things pretty simple!!

Kierst was lucky enough to have her birthday fall on a Friday, so that night we had a sleepover
to celebrate. The girls made their own pizzas, soaps, and lip gloss, and just had a good time.

At 10:30 we were finally eating cake.
Kierst really has a good group of friends. We last checked on them at 2 a.m., some of them were still going strong but we called it a night for ourselves and went to bed.

Abs' birthday is March 30th and she turned 7 this year.
Abs is a lot of fun to be around, and she really loves those around her, she's always making sure that others are cared for.
Abs got things for her newly painted room (another post on that later!) The zebra pattern really fits her personality!
After dance and cheer, we had cake!
Her birthday party was all about cooking, so I sewed aprons for all the girls to wear. (Side note here: I can sew, my mom was an excellent seamstress and taught me but I'm definately not great, I don't have the fortitude. I've recovered furniture-and I don't mean with slipcovers-sewn curtains, and lots of blankets and costumes, but I really have a love/hate relationship with sewing. It's not a passion or hobby or anything like that, but it's sure nice to know how to do things like sew aprons when you want to! Kierst is dying to learn, and quite frankly I don't have the patience--with sewing, not with her--to teach it, I'm thinking about sticking her in a kid's class this summer, but as usual I'm off topic...)
Anyway, I also made giant cupcakes for all the girls to decorate. If you haven't seen these before they're huge, it takes a whole cake mix and 45 minutes to bake one, thank goodness for double ovens!

We've suspected for the past year that Kierst knew the secrets of Santa and the Easter bunny, but she didn't say anything to us until Abs discovered the our stash of bunny chocolate. Note to self: hide in a better place next year, that girl can sniff out chocolate a mile away, I'm not exaggerating, you can eat chocolate and an hour later she'll ask you about it.
The fun part of Kierst being in the know was that she could help out. She woke up before everyone else and hid all the eggs outside. She loved it.
That Easter bunny's helper sure did a good job with those eggs!
After most of the eggs were found Lisi said, "Mommy, I want 100 eggs!"
